A team from the AO COE/CASPOA in Lielvarde, Latvia

From the 12th to the 16th of February 2023, a team from the Education & Training division from the AO COE/CASPOA left for Latvia to provide a course on ICC (Integrated Command and Control: NATO tool enabling air operations programming).

The partnership between France and Latvia has enabled the training of 12 Latvian trainees in one week, with the objective to have a complete outlook of the software and its capacities. Up until then, the Latvian trainees used to be sent to the AO COE in pairs. This specific course ‘on-the-ground’ therefore contributed to a faster spreading of the knowledge on the tool.

In light of the quality of the course provided, tailored to the needs and expectations of the trainees, the Latvian authorities have expressed their desire to have this course taught again in the near future.

Moreover, during the exchanges, the team was able to visit the CRC operations center (Control and reporting Centre, part of the balnet network linking 3 CRC in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia for the air space surveillance of the Baltic States). 

The AO COE/CASPOA: The Air Operations Centre of Excellence/ Centre d’Analyse et de Simulation pour la Préparation aux Opérations Aériennes.

This NATO Centre of Excellence relies on years of experience and competencies in the field of air operations, and technical simulation of Air C2 systems (Command and Control), in order to better air operations’ effectiveness. The AO COE organizes training for French and NATO personnel, through computer-assisted exercises as well as commanding position training. The Centre also proceeds to analyze lessons-learned from real operations and exercises in order to contribute to the training of the personnel and to improve the simulation tools. To finish, the AO COE operates in the field of innovation to integrate new technologies in the realm of air operations.

Une équipe de l'AO COE/CASPOA en déplacement à Lielvarde, Lettonie

Du 12 au 16 février 2023, une équipe de la division Education and training de l’AO COE/CASPOA s’est rendue en Lettonie afin de dispenser un stage de formation ICC (Integrated Command and Control : outil de l’OTAN servant à la programmation et la conduite des opérations aériennes).

Ce partenariat entre la France et la Lettonie a permis de former 12 stagiaires lettons en une semaine, avec pour objectif d’avoir une vision complète du logiciel et de ses capacités. Les stagiaires lettons étant jusqu’alors envoyés par binômes au sein de l’AO COE/CASPOA, la réalisation du stage a contribué à une diffusion plus rapide des connaissances sur l’outil. 

Au regard de la qualité de la formation dispensée, dont le rythme a été adapté aux besoins et attentes des stagiaires, les autorités lettones ont émis la volonté de reproduire ce stage dans un avenir proche.

Par ailleurs, lors des échanges l’équipe de l’AO COE/CASPOA a pu visiter le centre d’opérations du CRC (Control and reporting center faisant partie du réseau baltnet, qui relie les 3 centres de détection et contrôle de Lituanie, Lettonie et Estonie pour la surveillance de l’espace aérien des pays baltes).

L’AO CoE/CASPOA : Air Operations Center of Excellence/Centre d’Analyse et de Simulation pour la Préparation aux Opérations Aériennes. Centre d’excellence de l’OTAN, le CASPOA s’appuie sur son expérience et ses compétences dans les domaines des opérations aériennes, de la simulation technique et des systèmes C2 Air (Command and Control : programmation et conduite des opérations aériennes) pour améliorer l’efficacité des opérations aériennes. Le CASPOA organise des formations à l’attention du personnel français et otanien, avec aussi bien des exercices assistés par ordinateur que des exercices de poste de commandement. Il procède également à l'analyse des enseignements tirés des opérations réelles comme des exercices, afin de contribuer à la formation du personnel et au perfectionnement des outils de simulation. Enfin, il œuvre dans le domaine de l’innovation pour intégrer les nouvelles technologies dans les opérations aériennes.
